Interesting T-10 4 Speed Can You Help ID?

10 Attachment(s)
I bought a storage locker that was auctioned off due to non payment of rent. It had a bunch of Harley parts, a couple Big Block Chevy engines, C3 Corvette parts, and this transmission. All the other parts were fairly straight forward in regards to identification. The transmission seems to be a bit more of an odd ball.

The maincase and tail have late 1972 casting dates and I believe the stamping shows it was assembled the 282nd day of 1972. It has the smaller 7/8 pin and one groove on the input shaft. Anyone know what this is? When I first saw it, I thought it was an early Super T-10 Powerbrute trans. Now seeing the 7/8 pin, I think it may be a simple replacement for an early trans. Can anyone offer any insight?

Thanks,

Jason

Does it have the coarse spline output? or small fine spline like a Muncie. Im thinking it is out of a little Buick or Olds, it appears to have the wider T10 gears that were in those trans. Its got the angled shifter shafts like a old Borg T10.

GS tail housing was used in 65 66 GS Buicks..hence GS it put the shifter in a specific spot for the Skylarks..the original nail head t10s had high nickle gears and where very HD for the time..then..they where used as an over the counter HD transmission later...and i have seen them with as late 1978 date codes...

ive seen 2 or three with 72 dates and a few with 74

im sure theres other applications etc..i have never found anything really definitive why a 65-6 GS tail is on a 72 trans, but ive seen them...

Shoot, I just realized there were replies to this thread. The output is the smaller fine spline as found on 70 and earlier Muncies/T350. Mark, I think you are onto something. Crash, I will shoot you an email.

Thanks,

Jason
