American Racing TTO

Anyone running the new style American Racing TTO wheels on a 68 Camaro? Looking at the 15x5 and the 15x8.5 wheel size, but they only have one backspacing available for each. Not sure the 3.8 inch backspace on the 15 x 8.5 is going to work. Anyone running these?

I had a pair of A/R 8.5 wheels that came on a '38 street rod 10 yrs ago. Back was set pretty high. I moved them to my '67 Camaro and they sat right under the wheel lip..no go. Moved them to my '70 Chevelle and they wouldn't fit inside the quarter on that either. I can't believe after all these years, A/R wouldn't offer a better offset. I sold the wheels because they wouldn't fit anything I had in stock ride height.
as an aside, i replaced them with their 8" wide wheel and they fit all my cars with a 255/60x15 tire. That extra .5" and the shallow offset are an issue.

I had a pair of 8.5's w/ 275/60's 0n the back of my 67 for awhile , they were tight but the fit and looked Killer ! and to be honest they fit better 0n the 8.5's because the stretched & squared off the side wall more than the 15x7's i currently have in it now , i seems the narrower rim actually bulges the side wall more which results in occasional rubbing ,mostly on the back side above the top shock mount . But every cars varies . I have multi leaf spring & OEM style NAPA shocks

Thanks for the input. I really do not want them sticking out of the wheel well to far and I think that is going to be the issue with the minimal backspace these TTO' s have.

If they have an 8" with 3.75-4" backspace, you will be good. Here are a couple pics of my 8" wheels with 255/60x15 Coopers. Sidewalls are straight with the 8" and a 255 fills a wheel well nicely. No pics of them on my Camaro.

15x8 with a 4.5” backspace is the sweet spot on the rear of a 67/68. With a 15x8.5 and 3.8” backspacing you’ll have the wheel sticking out of the wheel well.

My 67 has 15X7 TTO’s front and back, standard 4.5” back space.

Just ordered the 15x8s with 4.5 backspacing and 15x4.5s from Jegs with their $50 off over $500 summer special. Just a hair over $600. Should have them on this week. Used the ET shank style conical bulge lug nuts that fits deeper into the wheel. If you want a few pics let me know.

FWIW, I had 15"x7" Torque Thrust Ds all the way around on this little 68, and I think it had an awesome look to it. The rear tires were 255/60 BFGs and the fronts were 215/65 if I recall correctly. Running 4 piston disk brakes on the front meant some casting material needed to be milled off the front calipers but it did provide enough clearance for the wheels to fit. I love the look of TTs on these cars.
