68 to 72 Nova trim tag help

1 Attachment(s)
Looking at this car, a 68 to 72 Nova that is part of an estate sale. Car is tubbed and caged. Just like to know what it was originally. It does still retain the auto on the column steering column.

Any her is a picture of the tag. Is it an SS car and waht yr?

I don't believe you can tell an SS on a 70 Nova from the trim tag.

144 is V8 (but does not tell you if it was SBC or BB).

27 = two door

45 paint is green mist.

Car is 52 years old, so things could have been changed. But, if it was an SS, I believe it would have come with power front disc brakes.

Pretty sure the Nova used a different heater core for BB the way first gen Camaros did; in fact, same heater core and heater box cover.
That would be a clue.

To add,1970 Nova w/Black vinyl Bench assembled 1st week of Nov.1969.

The A 2 on the tag is usually indicative of the # of exterior trim options installed (rocker mldg, body side mldg, aluminum bright trim on door frames, quarter windows, rain gutters)

There is no way to know if a '70 Nova Coupe is an SS from the cowl tag or VIN information. You'll need the VIN to even tell if it was a V/8, because the cowl
tags on Novas of this era were stamped as V/8 whether they were or not. The VIN tells
the truth.

There is no way of knowing if your car was a original SS. The only way would be if it had the original L48, L34 or L78 engine with the vin stamped or original paperwork. BB heater core location would also help and the number of fuel lines, 2 for the L48, L34 engines and 1 line for the L78. Sense your Nova is already hot rodded up, good luck. SS Novas also came standard with front disc brakes.
