'68 LO23 Hemi Dart
Neat car, cool color - is that really a factory color for '68? Looks almost too modern.
I had no idea the rear quarter panels were cut from Day 1 - talk about a radical machine. Think I'd want to buy some new tires for it though. Seriously...on a $1/4mil car.... ;-) Link to 1968 Hemi Dart auction https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/P7UAA...AR/s-l1600.jpg https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/Fe8AA...9j/s-l1600.jpg |
WTH--------------Totally agree with that ruins the car!

Love these beasts! My understanding was, as they came from factory they were never intended to be registered for the roads and were to see nothing but track duty. They arrived from Hurst(?) where they were reconfigured into an L023 in primer and Hurst re-arched the rear wells, and it was up to the race team to paint it what they wanted.

I love those cars......

A very unique two-tone from Hurst

I like that as raced paint job too. But I'm really partial to the "as-delivered" look. First pic is Marty Schorr's pic of Charlie Castaldo picking up his Hemi Dart at Hurst. 2nd pic is a really well done recreation of an as-delivered Hemi Dart. Notice the special shallow offset rear wheels needed to keep the tires inboard of the B-body width rearend (8-3/4" auto cars, Dana 60 4sp cars). Interestingly, you can road-race (!) a Hemi Dart on the Forza computer game, and its painted like this as well.

These cars are cool, they were sold new in primer and no warranty.
Really race cars. |
Greg Fernald of SS&FX does wonderful recreations of these beasts!!
