Black LOS 69 RS/Z JL8 Crossram

Hi all

I was talking recently with a friend who went with me back in 1995 (maybe 1996) to look at a black 1969 LOS RS/Z, Crossram JL8 car a guy in western VA owned. The car was restored and had (off memory) a ton of options...endura, blue light 8 track, deluxe. tilt, wood grain wheel, gauges, etc..

The car had a legit RPO rear (tapered tube) and GM crossram, but the lack of documentation, X code, tons of options, and ironically the fiberglass crossram hood prop rod location...I remember it was on the opposite side from what every photo I found showed...caused me to hold off. The price at the time was $19k (again going off memory). This was solid money for a 69 Z, even with options..

The guy who owned it was a HUGE Ford guy named Ed Ulyate (sp?) who owned a bunch of stuff including a 427 Cobra (real) a Rally Green Yenko and a few Boss 429 Mustangs (among a bunch of other cars).

Heard the car went to BJ and was sold that year...Any idea if it was real or what happened to it? Looking back..should have just bought it..lol

Without factory paper Van Nuys Z28's are difficult to document...
1998-99 I was offered a couple of Yenko Camaro's a COPO Camaro and Deuce Nova all complete cars in various stages of restoration for 95k - my hindsight is WAY BETTER than 20/20, however I saw the potential even then... just had no capital nor time for the projects at just a few years out of college.
Hindsight being so good... I ask my dad why he didn't buy the 63 Corvette Grandsport George Wintersteen had for sale in the back of his 1967 Hot Rod magazine for only $5500? He said I had just sold my 58 vette for $850... no way I was buying another plastic pig for more than what I was paying for my new 68 442.

I met Ed when I bought some cars from Carl Dwiggins.

He definitely put together a heck of a collection and intended on doing a museum that I'm not sure came together.

Ed was the 3 Day Blind guy, came into the car world with a bang. I haven't heard his name for at least a decade.

Someone has to remember this car...lol

Ed had some super cool stuff...actually got a ride to the 7-11 in the Cobra.

One of the coolest things he had...a Hughes 500 on a pad in a field...and a red Ferrari

I remember Ed. He campaigned a high dollar WoO sprinter in the mid 80's in Northern California. Big name drivers only ! Car number was 3DB.

So looks like Ed is somewhere in Florida (as of 2017?)...Found a pic of him with a rig..The guy had some great taste in cars...didn't know he restored the Dragon Snake Cobra...cool.

I had the Camaro VIN written down somewhere...it has been over 20 years though..

I saw the 427 dragon snake cobra in a shop in Cincinnati. I don't know who owned it at the time but it was there for some mechanical work. I want to say it was mid 1990's?? Was in unrestored condition at that time and running, they were doing some tuning on the chassis dyno with it. I've read there was only one of those built. The others were 289's.
