February 2010 Feature Car
Joe and Jake Anglin's 1969 Yenko Chevelle
L72 427/425hp, M21 4-speed, 4.10 posi, Dover White w/ standard black interior, AM radio w/ rer antenna & front/rear speakers, original selling dealer was Joseph Chevrolet, Cincinnati, OH In the mid 1980's, I heard about a Yenko Chevelle from my friend Bob Evans that was located a few towns over, but never could pin down the owner's name or exact location. Then in 1988, while going to look at a convertible Chevelle, I got to talking with the owner and asked if he knew of the Yenko Chevelle or the owner of it. The man said he knew of the car and it was still owned by the original owner. He himself had tried to puchase the car, however the owner would not sell. The man proceeded to tell me where the owner, Freddy, lived. After leaving from looking at the convertible, I drove straight to Freddy's house. I approached the door, and asked Freddy about the Yenko. He went on to show me some pictures of the car, and told me a bit about it. However, the car was not there. It was at a garage a few blocks away. We went there later that night, but Freddy quickly told me he was not interested in selling the car, and did not uncover the Yenko for viewing. I contacted Freddy periodically throughout the years and finally was able to purchase the car in April of 2004. The car was located in Freddy's garage in Newport, KY, up on concrete blocks. When we opened the trunk, the original heads, intake, drive shaft, cross member, radiator, and alternator were stored. It still retained all of it's original sheet metal. The original engine had been replaced under warranty early on. The car had only 12,748 original miles on it, due to the fact that it had been extensively street and strip raced until the mid 1970s, and was then parked until purchased. Restoration began in the summer of 2004 and was completed in December 2008. The frame-off restoration included finding correct date-coded parts and historically accurate addembly. The car was restored by Jim Bell and LeRoy Conley. Body and paint was done by Mike Wolking. Photos and write up by Ashley Anglin. https://www.yenko.net/features/2010/ja.jpg https://www.yenko.net/features/2010/ja_4.jpg https://www.yenko.net/features/2010/ja_5.jpg https://www.yenko.net/features/2010/ja_6.jpg https://www.yenko.net/features/2010/ja_7.jpg https://www.yenko.net/features/2010/ja_8.jpg https://www.yenko.net/features/2010/ja_9.jpg https://www.yenko.net/features/2010/ja_10.jpg https://www.yenko.net/features/2010/ja_1.jpg https://www.yenko.net/features/2010/ja_2.jpg https://www.yenko.net/features/2010/ja_3.jpg |

Re: February 2010 Feature Car
Awesome story, restoration and owners. It was a pleasure to see this car and meet you all for the first time last year at Carlise. I am not a real big white fan but this car really does something to that. That was sure a precarious way to store a car though I am sure it kept it much drier on the bottom side than if it had been on the ground. Must have been fun getting it back on the ground.

Without a doubt, my all time favorite sYc Chevelle! The White just grabs you and the black stripes and Correct Wheels complete the package. Add in the incredible owners and this combo goes over the top. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

Re: February 2010 Feature Car
Very cool. Was it originally a stripe delete car? I didn't notice any in the pre-resto photos. Or maybe I'm losing my sight. haha.

Re: February 2010 Feature Car
very nice car https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
on your first post with the photos. the 10th photo looks as though the car once had a vinyl roof? did it have a vinyl roof or is that just a lot of rust showing? |
Re: February 2010 Feature Car
no vinyl roof , the car had a repaint that yellowed or the clear yellowed , they tried to add some kind of flame ,that is yellow and purple that you see on top of right rear quarter in 10th pic.

Joe,
Your Yenko Chevelle is truly awesome. I was all over it at MCACN! I was very impressed. So sorry we missed each other! Perhaps you`ll bring her to Chevel-Abration 2010? I garranty you a fun weekend! Dan. |

Re: February 2010 Feature Car
Indeed one of the standouts among an incredible gathering of cars at MCACN; and that is really saying something!
Joe and his Son, (who btw is indeed the co-owner) are great guys and it was a real pleasure having them join us at the inaugural MCACN show. Bashton MCACN Managing Member |
Re: February 2010 Feature Car
It`s confirmed Joe and his Son are bringing there Dover White Yenko to Chevel-Abration in 2010! Even staying at our same hotel https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
Boy the 69's will be strong this year! Anyone else care to join us? Dan. |
Re: February 2010 Feature Car
I can't remember when I've seen a Yenko Chevelle at CB. This will be a great addition to the row of 69's, which is always impressive. I also saw Joe's Yenko at MCACN, and spoke to Joe/family.
The 68 Chevelle class will be impressive this year as well, with a newly restored L-78/89. Only about 6 weeks till CB10. |
Re: February 2010 Feature Car
Only about 4 weeks till Chevellabration now.

Re: February 2010 Feature Car
