Title Services
Bought my 71 Z from N.Y. & have had No Luck getting a title for the car. When I bought the car I was given the little square registration card which is what's usually used as the title dated 1981. Any Help?????

It depends on the state, but unless NY was titling cars in 81 I don't think S.C. can fight that. They're the DMV, so they can, but... You should be able to use a bill of sale and old registration for the first title since 81.

There are some title service companies that will issue a paper title if that is what you want and then you can take it to your State's DMV and get a new one. I think Broadway title does this. In GA, they will register an old car without an out of state title and will accept a registration card and bill of sale, but won't issue a paper title unless you turn one in.

oes it say 'transferable' on the little square...if so that is all you should need.

New York registration card is all you need transfer is on the back side.

New York didn't issue titles until 1973. Even today, any pre 1973 vehicle registered in NY will not get a title. Like Jim Ferron said, if it says "Transferrable", you should be good to go.

many states no longer recognize broadway title paper work..
like Missouri and Kansas and i was told Wisconsin and daily more are added to the list..laws change all the time... |
