All the cowl hood air cleaners were the same 350ss, b/b Z/28. Only difference is the height or existence of the extension ring.

Nope, 350s had different vent tube; automatics had the vacuum door in the snout and used the pre-heat tube. BB & Z/28 used the same unit but OE bases had a flat bottom and a 90º vent tube. Service bases had bead formed into the base and the vent tube was changed to 2 45º bends due to interference with double-pumper carbs. Some service units came with chrome lids; never used in production.

Not certain but I believe 71-72 Chevelle bases used an angled snout.

I was told last year at the Camaro Nats that some late cars (August and Later) had the 2nd design base with the ridge...

William, How's the 350 vent tube different? Let's stick with manual, so I can get it straight.

Gary, tube is smaller on a 350, I'm pretty sure the two sizes were 1/2" and 3/4".

Thanks Kevin. Was the hole in the air cleaner bottom the same size for all, and then the tube necked down for the 350, or was the hole for the 350 air cleaner smaller to begin with?
