Buick "A" bodies had a similar roof as early as 1972. Mike Mueller's new book shows one.

Re: 1973 Nova SS Factory Canvas Moon Roof
They're for real. My wife ordered a new Nova in 1973 and the sunroof was one of the few options she didn't select. Probably more of an oddity/curiosity today than really valuable. Highly unlikely anyone's gonna give him anywhere close to $12K for the car.

http://novaresource.org/history/73sunroof.jpg SUNroof ( that kooky name MOONroof is so 80's) A unique option was added to the Nova line midway through the 1972 production year - a sliding fabric sunroof known as the Skyroof. Officially called the Ventura II Folding Sunroof, it was installed on 6,822 Novas in 1972. Each color carried it's own RPO code: White (RPO-WV1), Black (RPO-WV2), Blue (RPO-WV4), Pewter (RPO-WV5), Covert (RPO-WV7), Tan (RPO-WV9) and Green (RPO-YH8) In 1973 the Skyroof option was still available but this was the last year. 3,259 Skyroof Novas were built for the 1973 model year built unlike the previous year, all colors carried the same RPO code (RPO-CF1). http://novaresource.org/history.htm http://novaresource.org/history/72sunroof.jpg |
Re: 1973 Nova SS Factory Canvas Moon Roof
He's a little off base with his information. There were no Novas or Acadians built in Canada after 1967. They were all built in the U.S. and exported for sale north of the border.

I believe Ford coined the name "Moonroof" for the Lincoln.

I believe Ford coined the name "Moonroof" for the Lincoln. [/ QUOTE ] Yes, you are correct ( in the 70's not 80's) and it was a glass unit as compared to previously common opaque units. http://www.jlynch.com/lincolnpicture...onroof_680.jpg |

Re: 1973 Nova SS Factory Canvas Moon Roof
Production seems higher than you'd expect?.
These weren't popular here in snow country although I remember seeing a Buick SunCoupe once.. Did any other A-Body cars besides the Buick Skylark SunCoupes ever get these roofs?. Below is the '72 Nova SkyRoof production by color...same 6822 total as noted above.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif ~ Pete "...Skyroof Nova White top(RPO WV1) 1050 made Skyroof Nova Black top(RPO WV2) 3075 made Skyroof Nova Blue top (RPO WV4) 164 made Skyroof Nova Pewter (RPO WV5) 202 made Skyroof Nova Covert (RPO WV7) 1424 made Skyroof Nova Tan (RPO WV9) 353 made Skyroof Nova Green (RPO YH8) 554 made Total Skyroof production 6822 made These are for 1972 I don't know about other years. Production started about March 1, 1972..." |
