What are those marks on the deck above #3 and #7?

What ever that is it isn't a casting date. With the exception of ZL-1 Camaros #1 & #2 [which had pilot engines built in Flint] production blocks were cast in '69.

The dimpling on the deck is a crude attempt to achieve better head gasket sealing. Indicates a larger problem.

At second glance I'm not certain that is a production ZL-1 block. There is no snowflake and it does not appear to have provision for a mechanical fuel pump. Hmm...

I was thinking about this, -67 Black Panther.

Gorries offered both the 327 and 427 V-8 engine options for their Panthers. The basic 327 had 210 HP. The 275HP L30 engine, at 10:1 compression made 355FT pounds of torque at 3,200 RPM. The optional blueprinted 427 - 435HP, ZL1 engine with its neck snapping 460FT pounds of torque at 4,000 RPM put some real teeth in the Panthers. At 12:1 compression, the ZL1 engine with its large 925 CFM 4-barrel carburetor proved to be a formal opponent for the Shelby GT-500 Mustangs, which carried the 428 big-block Ford engine, but only developed 355HP in 1967.

Does not have the bolt-in cam plug either. Looks to me like someone ground off the Winters logo. We can fix that for the next owner. Done about two dozen so far. LOL.

I'm sure that this block won't pass a pressure test either. Nothing that $$$ can't fix.
