Battery, Starter, ???? HELP

Just took my 69 Camaro out for an hour drive with radio on, etc. Turned engine off after I parked, got out and got back in to move it up 30 seconds later. Wouldn't crank, just click sound when I turned the key. Had to get a jump. Drove back home an hour again shutting it off when I got home, same thing. Checked battery reading and its 12.85V. Starter or solenoid issue? Battery issue on cranking power? Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks

By the way, it was one single click each time I turned the key, not multiple clicks which would be what I've experienced with a dead battery on another car.

Do you have headers? They tend to cook the starter and solenoid, resulting in the exact scenario you are facing.

Make sure your battery connections are clean and tight

Hot starter. Wait an hour or so and see if it cranks. If it does, you need a starter shield or a mini starter. I had the same problem.

No headers, stock exhaust. Where do I get a starter shield? Is the car supposed to have one from the factory? It's a 69 SS 350 Camaro. Where do I get a shield? Also, would it be the starter or solenoid, or both?

Could be heat related, but I would check all connections first. Battery, wires to the solenoid, even the two screws that attach the solenoid to the starter (had that cause similar issue before)

Re: Battery, Starter, ???? HELP

Always check the connecror behind the battery first. The small wire from the positive cable attaches to it before it goes across the core support and attaches to the horn relay. It is commonly rusted or corroded and can cause your problem. That wire and connector is the main feed of electricity to everything on your car except the starter itself. The wire to activate the starter solenoid comes from that wire and will cause your problem. You can run a 10 or 12 gauge jumper wire from the positive battery cable to the terminal marked bat. on your horn relay when it's hot and won't start. If it starts with the jumper hooked up then you need to repair the connector behind the battery. Clint
