402 chevy big block
 
were all 402 low compression truck motors.looking at 68 camaro and has one from 1972 in it.

While I wouldn't say *all* 402s were truck motors, the L78 402/375hp in 1970 would be the only 402 to have the 11:1 compression ratio...from 1971 on up the best you could do with a 402 was 300hp & 8.5:1(?) compression ratio.

CR did drop to 8.5 to 1 in 1971....HP rating was 300 in 1971 and dropped to 240 in 1972. This engine was used in Chevelles, El Caminos, Camaros and full size cars. Also available in pickups....good platform to build on for a street car. A good set of oval port heads, a better cam and a little more compression will really wake it up.
