Need help with original air filters

Looking to find out what vehicles if any this air filter was used on as well as year ranges. The Filter is an AC GM Performance Air Filter A212CX. It is an older style from when they were still coating the filter paper with some type of oil as opposed to the newer chemicals that were used. While I am at it what is a reasonable price for one in the box?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Michael,
The filters you have are the performance version of the A212CW filter that was used on many Chevrolet V-8 applications with the open element and cowl induction air cleaners from about 65-72. Although a pretty cool novelty item, it saw no production usage that I know of.
It's value is hard to predict as it falls under the aftermarket catagory. Some day 2 guy that's going for a certain look could have interest in it.
Hope this helps, Chris

I've picked up a few of those in the past.
They were sold mainly through GMC dealerships for their Big Blocks during the early to mid 1970's,for their commercial & industrial vehicles.
A few GMC SB 350's called out for them,as well as 1971 + GMC Sprints w/402 & 454's also.Look for those purists,as they'll pay the most for them, whatever that may be.

Put them on ebay... you'll be surprised what they bring.

To answer a question.
No,you can't rip out the front diamond mesh screen,so that only the more desireable square mesh behind it will show. You'll destroy it if you do,and even if you don't,it will look like absolute crap.(ask me how I know) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif
AC designed it that way, ontop of an A212CW,to help keep even more particle debris away from the paper intake element, when used on heavy duty construction/machine & utility type vehicles, which was the market they were aiming at.
They were toughting the "Highest Performance" slogan for that reason, although the racing flagman was probably added as a way to market this to the street crowd too,as it will fit mutliple Hi-performance cars air cleaners also.
I realize those two different wire mesh barriers look pretty crude by todays standards, but thats how they intended it to be back then.

Appreciate the help guys. Have seen people try and take them like you are referring to Mr70 with similar results. Not planning it myself, the A212CW's for 67's though getting hard to find are still around. Not worth destroying a filter that may be useful to someone else to make it look like one, at that point may as well go with a repro in my opinion. Just like re-stamping a block, wrong is still wrong even if it looks good.
