Unless I missed something,(possible) it says 283. An L79 would have been a 327 with the recessed oil filter boss for the chevy ll application. Not all 12 bolt Chevy ll rears were L79, and none that I remember were 4 series, although it may have been an option. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif Most I think were 3.31, but I'm going off memory.
I think you'd need doc's to prove the L79 claim. But it's still a cool piece. I don't think you can build it for that price.

I think most were 3.73's as I have a original with correct coding 3.73 Factory, but someone has put 4.11's in it.

I have a real 12 bolt that I took out of an old 66 racer years ago and put in my 63 vert. it has 4.88's in it but I never checked the codes. I'm sure these gears arent original, but I would think you could probably special order 4.10's in a 66 or 67 ?? I'll check the code on my rear when I get a chance and post... does GM list a code for a 4.10 in an early Chevy II??

I've always been under the assumption that 3.73's were the steepest gears you could get in a '66 L-79 Chevy II. I actually passed on a rough, but real 1966 NON-SS Nova about 8 years ago that still had its' original metallic-braked 3.73-coded rear axle in place.
