Bumper jack plating
A friend of mine gave me a bumper jack for my 69 ElCamino. I will remove the ratchet from the shaft, blast it, and paint it black. I will do the same for the base. Question: It has the hollow type shaft, not the solid "T" shape one. What type of plating should be on the shaft?

Re: Bumper jack plating
Bill, I have had both of my Camaro Jacks (Mast) plated Bright Zinc plating with out removing the jack mech. I just blasted and painted the mech the off grey and sent the jack to the plater with instructions to plate one end invert and plate the other end. The two step op left a very faint witness mark that most folks would never see. The finished product looked great.

Re: Bumper jack plating
Thanks Jim, I was wondering if the plating could be done without removing the Mech.

Re: Bumper jack plating
Bill I removed mine before having it replated. My jack is original to my 69 convertible and it was the diachromate

Re: Bumper jack plating
Bill,
I had a hollow jack mast cadmium plated a couple of years ago, with the mechanism left on. I asked the plater to move it to make sure it was plated underneath it, and it was. The mechanism was beautifully plated as well, I just painted it black. Easy enough. Phil Woj |
