Can anybody help I.D. this hub cap?
1 Attachment(s)
Here's a hub cap I bought off of e-bay. It looks just like a copo dog dish cap, but there is no Chevy bowtie in the center. Part number is 3993596 and the cap is nos.

I'd like to know if anyone can I.D. the cap by the part number, not just by the picture. I've had people guess GMC Sprint (GMC version of El Camino), other people are saying it's for a Canadian Nova (Acadian) or Canadian Chevelle (Beaumont). Might be any of the three, since the cap came from a Chevrolet / Cadillac dealership in Montana, just a couple hundred miles from the border with Canada. I tried my local Chevy parts guy, but all his contacts came up empty. Can any body help? Thanks. |

Canadian Pontiacs with 409s had valve covers without the Chevy bowtie embossed in them.

I don't remember this as a Canadian application but it's possible it could've been from one of our '69 Acadians or some other Canadian unit of the era?.
Sometimes Holden or other GM branded products marketed in places like Oz, S. Africa and Venezuela etc used exact or similar trim parts...often for years later than we did too.. And Verne, wasn't there Canadian car W-motor valve covers w/ the word Pontiac embossed into them too?. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif ~ Pete |

I've seen several Canadian Pontiacs with 409s and they have no logo on the valve covers at all. Verne https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |

After a bit of searching I found pictures of the 409 covers without the bowtie on them. The site also said the outside rear view mirrors on some of the Canadian built cars didn't have the bowtie either.
https://www.yenko.net/attachments/401237-409vcover.jpg With that info in mind, I'm thinking even more that these caps are from north of the border. The comment about the 409 covers and finding the pictures of them was just another piece of the puzzle. Thanks for that info Verne. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ouguysrock.gif |

Canadian Pontiac hub cap. 409 valve covers in canadian pontiacs had no embossing and were "super flame" decals on the air cleaners instead of "turbo fire"

John,
I would like to know too. I have 3 exactly like yours and could use a fourth to make a set. I don't think they are Canadian Pontiac, the Acadian caps for 69 and 70 are completely different. I have posted the same pictures before and have not received a solid answer. Marc |
Re: Can anybody help I.D. this hub cap?
I think Beaumont not Acadian, you really should just come over for a beer neighbour and talk about your problems!

Your beer fridge is full of 409 parts, no beer in there.
