Crossroads

------Can anybody tell me if Ed Schoenthalers (sp) dealership, "Crossroads Chevrolet", got the dreaded letter from GM last week??? I heard from one source that it had and just cant believe it. Many of us know "Mr. Ed" and know what a great guy he is and how pivotal he was back in the era for so many Chicago area gear-heads. Im keeping my fingers crossed that my source was wrong.........Bill S

I can't seem to get the whole clickable link to work (cut & paste the below to view the whole article) but in today's Chicago Tribune online it notes the below postive info about Ed and his Crossroads dealership in an article about Tom Sparks of DeKalb losing their franchise..

Link...
http://www.chicagotribune.com/busine...om-sparks-0515,0,387605.story

"...Friday was tense for Ed Schoenthaler, the owner of Crossroads Chevrolet in West Chicago. Then his store's switchboard operator called him on his cell phone while he was driving to say the dealership is getting its franchise renewed. This was a huge relief to Schoenthaler, who started his auto sales career in 1965 in Oak Park and took over Crossroads 26 years ago.
"Cars are my life and I have never regretted a day in the business, and that's why this was so scary to me," he said.
The crisis in the auto industry had taken a toll both on his employees and customers, who were unsure about buying a Chevy if the company would soon be bankrupt, Schoenthaler said. Now, with his dealership's future assured, he's looking ahead to improvement plans.
"Our building could use a paint job, which we had been putting off because we didn't know if we were going to be there or not," he said. "We're going to clean up our facilities even more and modernize them a little bit. Now that we know we're going to be there and it's worth the investment, we'll do even more..."

Re: Crossroads

Two friends of mine who work there now, basically told me a week ago...It's business as usual & will continue to be for some time.A third who used to,said,"They look as if they are OK",from his point of view.
Ed & his brother have always gone the extra mile to make it right for their customers for sooooooo many years, and that's probably why GM chose to stay associated with them during these difficult economic times.
Crossroads Chevrolet is one of the few remaining dealerships that I would travel out of my way for to buy a vehicle from, should I need one.
Go for the prices, stay for the service. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

Re: Crossroads

------Im really glad to hear all this, Rick. Ed and his brother are good friends of mine. I have done business with them and everything you say is absolutely correct. I only see Ed at Meadowbrook every year now. He is always there with a fresh restoration on some megabuck beauty. Both he and his lovely wife are always friendly and gracious to anybody with a question.........Bill S

Bill, did you make it up to the Michigan Chapter meet a couple of weekends ago? I heard Jack Cauley got the bad news. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif I was stunned to hear that.

Re: Crossroads

-----Hi Chris,,,No, Im not an NCRS member anymore. Cauley is a relatively old dealer, I think. I would have thought they would be safe, but there are a bunch of Chevy dealers in and around Detroit so from Obamas viewpoint I guess some could be sacrificed??? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif........Bill S

Re: Crossroads

^ all the Chrysler dealers that got chopped had contributed to the Republican party, that is why some of the OLDEST & BEST producing Chrysler dealerships got chopped.

scary, hitler - like tactics ...

Re: Crossroads

I knew the Jack Cauley name rang a bell...check this note below gleaned of the net..

"...Six weeks before his death, Zora was guest speaker at "Corvette: A Celebration of an American Dream", an evening held at the showrooms of Jack Cauley Chevrolet Detroit..."

I'm sorry to hear of Jack Cauley or any dealer being on the axe list and can't believe how insensitive this process seems to be as so many long time dealers and their employee's lives are being upturned with seemingly no concern for their families or rich GM history many of these franchises are part of..
