1970 COPO Nova
I know that there were only two 1970 COPO Novas sold in Canada, but none of the information I found is clear whether any were sold in the US. I also read that the two sold in Canada were the only ones that didn't make it to Yenko, which would tell me that those were the only two COPOs sold. Does anybody know? Were the two sold in Canada the only ones sold anywhere?

Re: 1970 COPO Nova
Not a Chevy guy, but it was my understanding those two escaped Yenko's clutch and were the only ones with that distinction. Certainly someone here can verify or set the record straight.

Re: 1970 COPO Nova
177 total COPO 9010 Novas in 1970...175 went to Yenko, 2 went to Canada.

Re: 1970 COPO Nova
Ya know, that really is a shame that only two of those deadly sleepers were produced. I know that COPO Pete has the silver one and I believe that the destroyed one was Fathom Green. We need more of these! The person that restores the next Yenko Deuce needs to leave it as it probably arrived on the factory transport truck.....as delivered to Yenko, minus stripes, Magnum wheels, etc. What a killer sleeper these would have been! Solid-lifter'ed LT-1, 4-speed, flat hoods and dog-dish hub caps........it just don't get any better than that!

Re: 1970 COPO Nova
2 total. COPOPETE has one and the other was totaled long ago if memory serves...

Re: 1970 COPO Nova
Just wanted to add that I've got a buddy with a STONE-STOCK LT-1 engine from a wrecked '70 Z/28 that he's owned since almost new. Anyway, the motor's currently in a '69 Camaro with headers, basic Muncie 4-speed, 4.10 rear gear and small slicks out back and this car will run 12.30's. That's fast in anybody's book!

Re: 1970 COPO Nova
Cool, thanks for the info, guys. It's too bad there were only two COPO Novas. It's the ultimate sleeper Nova!!

Re: 1970 COPO Nova

Re: 1970 COPO Nova
Central Chevy/Olds in Canada actually ordered 10 COPO Novas, but only received 2 - it is not know why. Interestingly, (for a #'s guy anyway) is that these two Canadian COPO Novas were not built sequentially, nor were they built within the same 2 runs as Yenko's orders. This little tidbit of info, along with the COPO requirement that the combination be made available to all dealers, certainly opens the door for additional non-Yenko, USA sold, COPO Novas. Although we don't know of any at this time, it would not surprise me if one or a few would eventually show up.
There is a huggar orange deuce that is currently under resto that will eventually be raced in pure stock sans stripes and wheels. I actually restored my Deuce without any of the Yenko doodads first, then photographed it before adding all that sillyness - I'm not a big fan of the Yenko stripes! |
