Can anyone tell me about an 84 Hurst Olds?
My dad is thinking about buying one...
Are they valuable? collectible? Anything to look for? |
Re: Can anyone tell me about an 84 Hurst Olds?
Make sure the shifter is 100% working and complete. Not sure how valuable they are right now. Sure they are collectible and value is low- which means you can get a neat car for a great deal. Probably won't appreciate quickly but if you buy it right, you'll sure to never be un-side-down either.
They are not GN status, but they do have the 8.5 rear and pretty cool styling. Friend in HS had one. They are neat cars. I would bet clean examples are around $8k. |

Real ones are RPO W40..
Here's the jazz on them.. http://tlentz.oldsgmail.com/specifications.html If you buy one or are close to pulling the trigger, don't forget GM Canada Vintage Services now documents most all '77 and newer model year vehicles regardless of where built or shipped new...YES US cars too!. Ask for George, he's a great guy!. http://www.vintagevehicleservices.com/options.html Good luck!. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif ~ Pete |
Re: Can anyone tell me about an 84 Hurst Olds?
Makes it easy to figure out what color to paint!!!!
Definately something to go out and have some fun with. A lot of guys quickly pull the 307 olds out and drop in a 403 Olds or squeeze in a 455!!! The '84 is more desireable for the 8.5" rear, but the '83's have a bigger following. Make sure that you have the difficult to find parts-- rear wing, Lightening Rod shifter, wheels, hood scoop. For more information go to Hurst/ Olds club website. FYI-- Kelsey has it in the works for the original Eagle GT's (215-65-15 ORWL) to be repopped. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif |

Re: Can anyone tell me about an 84 Hurst Olds?
Rusty,
Speaking of Hurst Olds, I have mentioned this before and still never found anything on it. In 1982/83, three of us were driving my black 68 SS427 Impala to the Super Chevy show in Indianapolis. I believe we were on I-55 in Northern, IL when we were passed by what I recall being an early 80's Olds Toronado. It was White/Gold and with all the typical H/O emblems and stripes, etc and was driven by a (large hairdo) grey haired woman. I have never found anything more on a H/O Toronado. Do you know anything about these? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |

Strange things!! Lets try this: Hurst/ Olds club website
Rick, I have not heard anything of a H/O Toro. The things that I have heard relating the Hurst Olds to the Toro: The Peruvian Silver for the '68 Hurst/ Olds was a Toro only color and in '68 the 455 was pulled straight from the Toro line (okay healtier camshaft, but the higher compression slugs, etc were from the Toro line). FYI, the driveline(s) for Hurst Hairy Olds were Toro 425's with Blowers and the transaxle setup from the Toro's. They broke many blocks getting up to the levels they did, but they NEVER broke the drive chains!!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif |

Rick -
Might it have been this? After a few refreshments this car can begin to look like a Toronado......'70 Pontiac Hurst SSJ Grand Prix. http://inlinethumb10.webshots.com/46...600x600Q85.jpg The President of the Pontiac Club of Iowa here in Des Moines owns this one....original owner. Not the best picture but car does have the Hurst badging as well as gold accent paint and wheels. Just a thought. |
Re: Can anyone tell me about an 84 Hurst Olds?
Not a HO Toro but what about the 68 442 with the front wheel drive from Hurst?
