Beech Bend flooded

I snagged these pix from the H.A.M.B.

Historic Beech Bend Raceway is under 12 to 16 feet of water in some areas. The track, pits and the beautiful old covered bleachers are all flooded. I hope they can survive this. The Hot Rod Reunion is coming up in June. What a Great Place!!!

That is a great place! I was there for the 1976 NHRA SportNationals. Got a pulled pork sandwich and a Coke for a buck. Great racing too. Those were the days!

Not likely! Someone posted somewhere that some of the buildings were swept away or taken down, and Lord only knows what kinda shape the track surface and electronics will in...the water was just shy of the readouts on the scoreboards last I saw...!

Here's a couple more shots.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_AfHNv7MeKR...572+-+Copy.JPG

The top shot shows most of the park from around the starting line way past the finish line including the shut-down area. The two light colored roofs at the far right are the covered bleachers on each side of the strip. Just the top panels of the ET & Speed displays are above water.
The bottom shot appears to have been taken from a hillside just down-track from the bleachers off the left lane. It shows both of the covered bleachers and the timing tower.

Those shots were taken Monday and it sounds like the river was still rising at a rate of 8" per hour and not expected to crest until 6 PM last night. At that point the buildings that were lost included the restrooms and food stands behind the pit side bleachers, a laundry room at the campground, the ticket booth at the pit entrance and part of the seating at turn one of the oval track.

I'm thinking 1/4 mile boat drags for a couple more weeks!

That just flat out sucks! We were having those problems in Janesville a couple of years ago. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
