Odd 67 Dana Camaro photo ...
There's a thread on a UK hot rodding site that shows old pics of US/Canadian cars on the street in the UK during the 60's.
One of the guys posted up this pic that was taken in April 67 , thought you guys might find it interesting...note it's still on CA plates UCX 973 , is it traceable from that ?. http://www.rodsnsods.co.uk/forum/ima...258561a14b.jpg Looks to be a Mk1 Lotus Cortina in the background too. Complete thread is here should you be interested ... http://www.rodsnsods.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=8458 |
Re: Odd 67 Dana Camaro photo ...
Thanks for the pic. It looks like it was set up for road racing (Trans-Am) rather than drag racing with just the way it looks to me with the flat hood with locks, the wheels, and the covered headlight and parking lights. Looks like it has a partial roll cage inside and no back seat too. I doubt it would be traceable from the license plate as California DMV records don't go back that far as far as I know. I know Dana Chevrolet in South Gate, California received 5 1967 Z/28's in late 1966 and reworked 4 of them for SCCA competition. This was even before Roger Penske got started campaigning Camaros.

Re: Odd 67 Dana Camaro photo ...
It'd be best to swap on a set o' MiniLites before taking that car road-racing!.
And that Dana script on the quarter is sure reminiscent of what's on the '69 that we've looked at pics of here before...the hoax barn find car?. And that Lotus Cortina sitting in front of the Bus could probably blow everything in this pic off any road circuit!. Re: Odd 67 Dana Camaro photo ...
Holy Moly! That's my friend Mike's car! It was built for racing at Dana Chevrolet and ran at the Sebring Trans-Am race on 3-31-67. This was part of a two-car Dana team at Sebring. Tom Lynch drove this one and Dick Guldstrand drove the other (blue) car. After Sebring, Lynch took the car to Europe to race at several of the well known circuits over there (Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Spa, etc) before bringing it back to the States in time for the Las Vegas 350 Trans-Am race. Lynch raced on the East Coast in '68. Below is a picture of it at VIR (Virginia International Raceway) in September '68 where it won the A-sedan class. You can see the same license plate number on the car. It ran a few Trans-Am races in '69 as well. A REAL Dana Camaro with real Trans-Am history AND it still exists.

Re: Odd 67 Dana Camaro photo ...
Great history. Where is it now? Do you have any recent pics? Is it still a white race car? It doesn't look like it left the factory as a Z, was it a base car?
Sorry about all the questions, really interesting car. JB |

The owner is at the ALMS race at Laguna Seca this weekend. When I talk to him after the weekend, I'll ask him what is OK to post.

Mello are you not hosting 1967z28.com any longer?

Re: Odd 67 Dana Camaro photo ...
I never hosted that website but worked very closely with Rich McCabe who was the person who started it and maintained it. Once Rich sold his '67 Z, he was no longer interested in maintaining the site and so Jerry MacNeish was given the domain name.
