Chevellbration 2010

Just rolled in from Chevellabration, Diana and I had a great time, spending time with other Chevelle owners as well as several club members.
One on the highlights, well actually the main highlight, was at the track on Thursday. I had only made a couple of passé sin Red Alert this year, so was kind of nervous, as I did not want to do anything to embarrass RA in front of all of the Chevelle folks on hand. Well, as it turned out, no need to worry, as RA performed flawlessly, opening with a twisting, front wheel pulling 7.14 and backed by a couple of .08s, at around 98 MPH, which was good enough for low ET among the Chevelles. I was about to load when the PA announcer said there was a local racer with a late model Mustang in the crowd that was going to show the Chevelles how it was done. On his first pass he put down something like a 7:30, at which time the announcer then says are there any takers (Chevelles) wanting to race the Mustang.? How about Red Alert? We,, anyone who knows me I know I cannot let a challenge go, so I agreed to a one race shootout, heads up. Though it appeared I had a couple of tenths on him, I know in the world of drag racing, you never assume anything. They called us to the line, we both did out burnouts, then it was time settle things. As not to give the race away, and because I had relighted on the pass before, I made sure I was slow off of the line. The Mustang got me a .10 off the line, and a .10 at the sixty foot, but once RA settled down I had a .10 on him by the 300’ mark, taking the win light with a 7.0503 @ 98.63 to his 7.2850 @ 94.96. Needless to say the Chevelle folks cheered as I brought RA back down the return road. Later on I visited with the guy with the Mustang, really nice guy, his mustang is his daily driver, but he is one of the top guns at the track. http://www.musiccityraceway.com/Race...0/RedAlert.jpg |

Re: Chevellbration 2010
Albert was there running his ZL-1 Chevelle, neat ride, I really like the write up, on Saturday spent a lot of time going over Joe's Yenko, and Dan told me he was "forced" to cruise down in a customer's ragtop.

Re: Chevellbration 2010
I don't know much about your car, but can you tell me what kind of drivetrain you are running? Engine size, trans type, and rear gear? Building a 70 Chevelle SS and want to get it to run in the mid to low 7's in the 1/8th also. Right now we are looking at an L88 427 with a TH350 and 4.10 gears. I had this combo in a 70 Monte Carlo back in the 80's and it ran 7.56's on street tires and open headers in the middle of July here in Hotlanta. Was there a model car made of yours back in the 70's? Memory is getting bad these days. Thanks.

Re: Chevellbration 2010, Red Alert racing video
Yes..AMT did a model of this car three times, first in 1972.
The car is pretty much the way it was built in '71, BBC with 650 HP, 400 turbo and original 12 bolt with I believe 5:13 gears. It is a heavy car, PWs, console, original interior, etc. Here is a video from the Chevelle site, I believe racing Albert. Red Alert pass |

Got a surprise in the mail today from Chuck. Seems Red Alert was given a Top Three award in the '64='72 Pro Street/Competition class. I am both honored, and surprised, as there were some really outstanding Pro-Street cars at CB10.
