Im sure they are just fluffing those numbers. They want everyone to get excited, then launch the IPO. It will be goverment motors for awhile im afraid.

I imagine they are fluffed too. They ran an add awhile back that said they had already paid back their loan with interest. Well, they paid it back by borrowing from another fund. A bit deceiving if you ask me. Either way, it sound like good new that profits are being made.

Wow, that's quite an assumption!

How can they price it around $26-$29 when less then 2 years ago the took billions and billions of dollars. I know a few dealers also and they are not selling anything.

Don't confuse current sales trends with the company's market value. Don't doubt that Wall Street Analysts can't ascertain a company's worth, regardless of pre IPO estimates. What you call 'fluffing the numbers' is more accurately phrased 'an incomplete picture'.

I'm delighted that GM was saved and seems to be doing well. Fluffing the numbers is what corporations do, as does Wall Street. I agree that we'll have to wait and see how well the IPO goes and how sustainable the post-IPO profits are. People who complain about the GM bail-out need to keep in mind how bad things might have been had GM (and Chrysler) been allowed to fail. I know it's popular to criticize government bail-outs and there is a lot there to be critical of (Wall Street's behavior in particular) but the U.S. auto industry deserved the government intervention it received. If we had not acted then GM's assets would have been liquidated and undoubtedly shipped to China along with all those good American jobs. Say what you want out-loud but be glad that the government saved the auto industry. I wonder how much outrage there would have been had President Obama (or a President McCain) just stood by and allowed GM to collapse?

If this is too political the mods can delete it.
