Whats the story on Atlas 5 spoke mags??

I've read that Don Yenko had these wheels made at a foundry in Pennsylvania. Is this true? Were they available at speedshops and other outlets? Are there any identifiable markings besides the center caps?

Just curious what the history is on these wheels.

Yes,
Likely not,
& no.

Search the forum for a great historical write up on the Atlas wheel story, Supercarkid and Camarojoe are the localized guru's on them.

I did a search but came up with nothing on the write up. Can someone give me a link? Thanks.

I vaguely remember the story:
Atlas was an Aluminum foundry and the owners son bought/raced Vettes from Yenko. They took some Torque Thrusts or like and made patterns and then cast the wheels at less $ than Torque Thrusts.
I believe they also cast some emblems as well.

Hope I didn't truncate or botch it too bad.

Do the Atlas wheels have legal DOT #s?

Thanks for the link to the Atlas wheel story.

A few days ago I posted for info on these wheels on another website and I got a response from a guy who said that his Dad ran a Sunoco station in Cannonsburg back in the late 60s and sold Atlas wheels at the station. He said that other garages and stations in the area sold them also starting around May of 1967.

This goes against the belief that they were only sold through Yenko but I have know reason to doubt this guy or anyone here on this site. History is always interesting.

No, according to him the wheels came from the Atlas Foundry.
