Fake Pad Stampings?

I will be the first to admit I am no expert - but I can usually tell pretty well when something is faked. This pad looks way too crisp and perfect to me to be authentic - any thoughts?

You need a clearer picture and the paint taken off the pad first.

I see a lot of issues with that stamping such as font and spacing.

Thank you - exactly as I thought but would never make final determination given that I am not an expert. The depth and clarity of the stampings are what caught my attention but the font did run across my mind but was not 100%.

So in the end - another non-X code car being faked as a Z-28.

Re: Fake Pad Stampings?

Usually when the pad is painted, it is done to cover the lack of original broach marks. Pads were not originally painted. This one is obvious.

Not always true. Many early restorations had their pads incorrectly painted due to lack of accurate restorations at the time or cosmetic preference. That's why you have to look at the stamping itself as well as the broach marks underneath the paint.
