I drove my new girlfriend home last Friday
After a lot of looking and a lot of asking questions from y'all, I went and picked up the 1970 Nova SS 350 that I previously posted about. My wife was the one that came up with the "my new girlfriend" name for it. I drove it about 120 miles this weekend and had a smile from ear to ear the whole time. Here are a few pics I took after I cleaned her up.

The lock-out for the key doesn't work, so you can start this sucker with or without a key. What's the best way to fix that? |

Many Congrats!!!
Not sure how to fix the lockout, most of my Novas could stay running after I pulled the key out - was fun to freak out my passengers! |

Bwwwaaaahahahaha!!! Car theft in Dallas is rampant. It stays in my garage, but I still need to get this fixed ASAP. I don't want to be at a car show and have some jack-wagon drive off in my baby.

Congrats!! Cranberry Red is a great color,i should know for my 72 Nova is the same color.Looks good, all you have to do is paint those fender gills body color except the very back edge of the gills, just a little chrome showing along the edge.Enjoy your new toy,it's all about driving these cars.

Good luck with your new Nova...
Your car has a locking column..rod and brackets connect to trans. linkage to lock column when you put it park. Then when the key is removed the ignition switch can't be worked..if you have the linkage in place and it still moves without the key...something is wrong in the switch and/or column... wilma |

1. Don't announce on the WWW that your car starts without a key.
2. get a "Club" 3. Replace ignition lock. Have Fun congrats, nice buy. |

Re: I drove my new girlfriend home last Friday
If you can pull out the key, the lock cylinder is bad. Immediately replace the ignition key assembly. You have to pull the steering wheel to do it but it is rather easy if you have a repair manual. Go to a locksmith and buy the new GM lock cylinder with key. Don't bother with the aftermarket ones. They tend to have quality problems such as missing things like an accessory position. (I learned that the hard way).
I always replace all the locks when I buy a car - common sense safety precaution. It's also just as wise to do it when you move to a new house or apartment. You never know who has old keys. |
