Dick Harrell Badging

I went to look at a 1968 Camaro today that is still with the second owner. It is a 28,000 mile car with most all of it's original paint and drivetrain. The curious part for me was that it has a Dick Harrell Badge on the rear tailpanel. When I asked the gentleman why it was there, he explained to me that the original owner told him that he bought it there. This fellow has owned the car since 1974.

So, I took pictures of the badge inside and out with my phone. Let me know what you guys think about its originality. Thanks, Ed

The Camaro has always been in Indiana. The current owner said the original owner went over to Illinois to get the car.

Looks like a real badge to me... I would have to verify the story more however.. I would ask to see any kind of paper trail that the car was actually Harrell prepped...

Chances are it might be a real Harrell car...

A brother of guy I know had a Harrell prepped 70 Chevelle. He bought the car new at a dealership in Cleveland, Oh. and sent it to Harrell. The car was stolen I think he said in 71 and the car was recovered minus the entire drive train...

Rich:

Did Dick Harrell have a dealership or just his shop in East St. Louis? One of the other cool things about this car is that you can barely see the fade marks of lettering that was once on the door. Ed

Just his shop.. He was connected to dealers to do performance work on new cars.. Fred Gibb was one of these dealers among others.. If you look under the thread 68 COPO Nova under supercar and musclecar discussion, Dick Harrell is discussed..

Although Dick DID have a shop in the E. St. Louis area, by the '68 era he had moved to the Kansas City location. That's where the '68 Gibb COPO Novas were treated to the 427 swaps and the "Super Tuning" of the L-78s.

Dennis, What do you think of the badge? If you get a chance tomorrow, could you give me a call? I would like to talk to you about this Camaro. Thanks, Ed 847.809.8022

... What is that other hole to the right of the emblem?

...Could the "original" emblem have been removed...

...and the "Dickie Harrell" emblem
installed at a later time?

I couldn't figure out what the other hole was for or why it was drilled. There wasn't a second matching hole because I thought the same thing. The holes for the Harrell emblem are much smaller. Ed

I'm almost positive the badge is a repop.
