66 chevelle ss

A friend of my son's grandfather died recently and the family wants to sell his 66 chevelle ss. My son was looking at it for me and sent some pictures. The car has been stored in his barn for 30 years. It is a one owner 360 hp with the original engine and four speed. The trim tag is a 66138 with the color being LL {med blue?) with a blue interior. The car has 51,000 miles. I thought I knew these cars from the old days but a couple things are not the way my memory remembers these cars. First it has a bench seat. I thought they came only with bucket seats. Second the engine has a holley carb on an iron manifold. Third the back panel between the rear lights is body color. I thought it would be black. Glass is good. Interior needs work. Body is decent.Whats it worth?

Painted rear body panel is correct...It could have had a bench seat...depends on what it says on the trim tag.

Holley carb on an iron manifold is possible as well...depending on the engne stamp.

What does the trim tag read...and what is the engine stamp?

Thanks for the quick reply. I have just looked at pictures of the trim tag my son sent me on the phone I will look at it again. I know the color was LL ? I'm getting old and my memory of these cars is not as good as it once was. The car is 5 hours away and is in my sons neighborhood so he is looking it over for me and he is not an expert. The car is all there with minor body rust. but it does need a floor pan on the drivers side. Of course it will need a complete restoration. I was thinking $4-5000?

-----Bruce is correct,,,, The 1966 360HP Chevelle motor had a cast iron intake with a single feed Holley as did the 67 350HP. Aluminum manifolds were reserved for solid lifter motors almost exclusively.
-----The black rear panel is something that another one of the guys can go into depth about. Generally though, Im pretty sure the back panel was body colored.
-----Many 66 SS Chevelles came delivered with bench seats. Had to have your honey close to you, ya know!!!.....Bill S

If the car is complete the car should sell easily for $4000-$5000. If I was closer I would buy it.

On the few original 66s that I have seen, The cast iron intake actually had "Holley" cast into it.

4-5g sounds like a great deal for an original drive train plus throw in a restorable body

If you get it for 4-5k... that would be a STEAL in my opinion.

You should consider contacting Mike Crown. He, in my opinion, is the person most qualified to help you in determining value on a 66 or 67 Chevelle. He has helped me many times with both buying and selling. You can reach him through his website: www.mysterychevelle.com
