Pontiac Museum to open July 23, 2011
For those that haven't followed this upcoming celebration, the new Pontiac Museum in Pontiac Illinois will be opening to the public July 23 in Pontiac Illinois. I know it's a bit of a conflict with the SCR event that happens the following week, but for those in the downstate Illinois area, this will be quite an event to attend. Our friend Tim Dye has been working very hard for the past year, with the representatives from Pontiac IL, to put this permanent museum together.
For those that haven't been to Pontiac, it's a beautiful old fashioned town with a lot of heritage, and some great photo opportunities for our cars. It's part of the historic Route 66 corridor, and the downtown area has some phenomenal murals on their old buildings. http://visitpontiac.org/graphics/mod...and%20Well.jpg This is the link to the Pontiac Museum events for the weekend of July 23rd. Admission is FREE that weekend. http://visitpontiac.org/webpages/index.php?art=961 This should be quite an event! There will be hundreds of Pontiacs in attendance for the grand opening, and many caravans filled with GTO's, Firebirds, and others leaving the Chicago area for this great weekend. Saturday's speakers will be at the Methodist Church, and include the legendary Jim Wangers, and designer Bill Porter. Porter was responsible for the 2nd Gen Firebird body, the Firebird emblem (upturned wings, used in 1970), the aggressive 1970 Formula hood, Honeycomb Wheels, and the aerodynamics of the 2nd Gen Trans Am.
