Kit car bodies were getting pretty well refined by the mid 50's so the possibility certainly exists it's something by one of the manufacturers/builders on the 'Vette chassis?.
Contacting Geoff Hacker's or cruising his site may yield some info?.

Again it appears more like it belongs w/ other similar era cars on Geoff Hacker's site than a factory job?.
