Going to do an LS engine swap in the Nova

The transmission is going out in my Nova and this has caused me to reevaluate the car and what I do with it. I decided the high compression 406 needs to go. I pick up my engine and trans tomorrow. I found an '09 LY6 6 liter with it's matching 4L80. They are coming out of a GMC van which has 88,300 miles. They are including everything from wiring to driveshaft yolk and all front accessories and gas pedal. It was a light right side and rear damage van which made me comfortable. The miles is high for an 09 in my opinion but I figure it's better than out of a truck that has been towing or pushing snow. The complete package was $2500. Hopefully this was a deal, it seemed like it after looking online and calling the local reputable yards.

I am going to hang at least 1 turbo on it but those details will pan out over the winter once I get everything for the swap.

That should be nice. I saw a Nova with a GTO drivetrain just recently that was really well done. It was a 6 speed. I'll try and find the photos.

Over at LS1tech.com in the conversion section you'll find all the info you need, and then some, to do it.

Good Luck, you'll never regret it.

for one... the 4l80 is almost indestructible. it does weigh 100lbs over a 4l60..but no biggie there.

heres a great thread regarding an LY6 conversion and the basics of doing the engine.

LS Engines "Rock"........I've got about 6500 miles on this "Beater" without any trouble.......On a 90 degree day I can let it idle all day with the A/C on and the temp gauge never moves....pretty cool..

Here's the photos of this Nova with the GTO/6 speed. He was from Wenatchee, Wa. and just loved it. Got 29 MPG on the way to the show.

Drop a mild cam, intake and injectors in it and that little motor will come alive. It takes just a few $$ to make a huge difference in LS based motors.
