Motor Mount Inspection Marks
Does anyone know if the original big block Chevy motor mounts had colored inspection paint markings on them??
I have seen green markings on an NOS set.. I didn't know if that was a just an NOS part thing only or if the original ones in the cars were marked as well... Thanks.... Rich |
Re: Motor Mount Inspection Marks
Assembly line big block Chevelles did in fact have green inspection marks on them (at least in 1970). They also had the welded through bolt nut on the mount.

Re: Motor Mount Inspection Marks
Was there any particular spot for the paint daub on the motor mounts Rick?
I have the original motor mounts on my 68 with the welded nut. I wonder if a nut can just be welded on the motor mounts that are available these days, with no nut. |
Re: Motor Mount Inspection Marks
Bill, the paint dabs I saw on the NOS ones I believe were on the rubber that would face the front/rear when mounted... Is this correct Rick??
Thank you for your response... Rich |

Rich, yes that is correct. I unfortunately do not have a photo of any of my completed restorations showing that green mark but it was rather large in most cases. The green paint was applied to the side with all the part numbers (opposite of the welded nut side). Attached is a photo of an original motor mount showning the unique encapsulated nut. This is a car that is currently in my shop for some correcting.
As far as the nut goes, that is what I do. Use a thin nut (not a standard thickness nut) and very discretely tack it to the backside of the passenger side and front side of the drivers side motor mount. |
