396-427 Engine Questions

Good Morning,
I recently acquired a car w/ a trunk full of what may be some desirable restoration pieces.

1-3916323 4- bolt main block.
1-3933163 Aluminum Intake.
1- set 3964291 Cylinder heads.
I was wondering if there is anything especially valuable from a restoration standpoint, or just decent performance items that could be used for some other projects? As you can see from my screen name, these parts were a part of the purchase of this car. I was told it was an original 425 h.p 396, but not the case. Anyway it's still a nice car w/ period correct items and a fun project despite the lack of collectibility now.

Re: 396-427 Engine Questions

Block:
3916323 1968 396 325, 350, 375, 2&4 bolt

Heads:
3964291 1969-70 396/402 375 L-78, Intake Port 325cc
427 425, 435 L-71/L-72
454 450 LS-6, 108.0cc

Intake:
3933163 1968-69 396 375 L-78/L-89
427 425 copo

Casting dates make a big difference in value. If they are later date over the counter items they will be less desirable.

Thanks James
How would I go about finding the casting dates? Some of my questions are probably pretty basic, I'm a racer who is winding down a bit and looking to start collecting nice cars instead of cutting them up and turning them into purpose built race cars.

Many of my best swap meet finds are at drag strip and circle track swap meets. Just like I did 30 to 40 years ago, those guys are still parting out cars.

Casting dates on the heads would be a Letter code indicating month then the day of the month then the year as a single digit.
B 28 9 = Feb 28th 1969

Intake the same, however it is under the heatshield (which is riveted in place)
