One of the best car threads (check it out)

I know this may get under the skin of 'pure' chevy guys, but there is something really cool near the bottom of page 21 (a 68 chevelle lifting its front end off the ground).

That is a really neat picture of that White '68 Chevelle poppin' that wheelie. 'Ya know, that's really not that hard to do with a decently powered Chevelle. At the same time I was racing a low 10-second Malibu my lil' brother had a 13-second '72 Chevelle with an extremely mild 454, Vega Convertor (remember those?), hand-me-down wore-out Hoosier tires and NO Front Shocks (that's the key). Well, my car would stay on the ground but his Chevelle would yank the front tires 12-14 inches easily on any kinda pavement. He practically became a local legend because of this and when he would choose off faster cars to race and normally lose, the crowd of post-race spectators would flock to his car instead of the winner! I once followed him a couple of miles through town and watched him wheelie from every single stoplight just driving the car normal. It was actually quite hard NOT to do it.

yeah, you see a lot of pictures out there, but when I saw that one, I thought that was so cool. That car did that right off parking lot pavement. I worked at various places as a kid around chicago (late 70s), and in one of the places, the garage mechanics would tell stories of cars on the streets of chicago lifting their front ends off the ground street racing (both cars) and I just never believed it. Thought you had to have really good pavement to do that. I beleive their stories now.

This '68 looks tuff and is bitin' hard! Closer inspection of front license plate.."Beware of Dog". IMO, the plate on this non SS should say, "Beware of junkyard Dog"

That reminds me of the pic of the 55 that was pulling the wheels on the street/ backroad. The stuff legends are made of!

That 68 is SWEET!! Damn, that's what it's all about! No matter how hard you try, a pic that cool couldn't be duplicated today. Vintage iron rocks!! Black steelies in the air...Amen!!

dan and kurt are probably wondering how a 'non post' car can do that...

good eyes on the license plate, it makes the picture that much cooler.

----A buddy of mine in Cleveland {east side} could yank the wheels on his 55 chev from first to second at will. Always thought that was pretty awsome. Hed leave the drive-in and go down the street and turn around. Upon his return hed be in first at about 20/25, and then slip into second with the clutch in, wind the healthy big-block up a bit pop the clutch and put a dent in the floor with the pedal. Yanked em about 6" to a foot every time......Bill S
