Frozen 2” Heat Riser Valve

What is the trick to keeping these valves from freezing up. I removed it, sand blasted it and had it swinging up and down with ease. One month later, froze up. Even Purchased a reproduction and it did the same thing. And no, the gasket or exhaust pipe is NOT rubbing. My car is a 1962 chevy with a stock 327 engine.

Just grind the flap off like i did in this photo and ad a hole with cotter pin so the bar can not slide out.
Works well for me.
The heat riser still works but without one side being clogged up for the start up.

So you are saying it is not needed for the choke to open. That the choke gets enough heat from the exhaust manifold to heat the spring to open.

GM# 1052627 Heat Valve Lubricant (penetrating lube that has gotten rave reviews from those that use it)

Bought 12 from paragon...7 didnt work and were froze.. the tighter you turn the stud nuts, the more it freezes up be ... I believe you will find the flange gasket is binding it up and its tight to begin with, bad design ...paragon always has good stuff but these are the exception
