Hi, normally i wouldn't argue the point but knowing the source who purchased the motor, I doubt that is the engine. He was a huge classic muscle car collector and had the resources to buy whatever he wanted. He was very picky about what filled his engine compartments and also the space in his hangar. It is definitely a big block; I remember him saying something about it being a 427. My father in law (the purchaser) told me he purchased it for close to 20k, and I believe it was being stored in a crate as a replacement motor for his 1966 Corvette. It was purchased at least 10 years ago but I don't have a solid date range beyond that. Should have provided this info in the first place! Thanks for commenting; hope this additional info will help.

What's the casting date?
Chevrolets Truck engines started with the letter T.
Could it be TDJ or something similar?

Re: need help with engine code

I though XAA was a high performance suffix. Possibly LS6 crate engine.

Also, the stamp is right above the timing cover to the right of the alternator if I am looking at the the front of the engine.

Jason,

You are correct. I have both an LS-6 & an LS-7 that were purchased from GM in the late 1980's. The LS-6 has GM Part #366250 and had a engine suffix of "XAA" and the LS-7 has GM Part# 3965774 and had a engine suffix of "XCH".

I found out the hard way you could run the LS-6 like you stole it right out of the crate, but the LS-7 had poor tolerances, and spun a main @ 100 miles. When we took it apart, 1 cylinder was over by .010 then any other, so it had to be bored .030 and it has never been fired since(that's the engine I now have for sale in the classified section under "Big Block Garage Sale") His TD13XAA is probably TO13XAA for January 3rd 198? XAA an LS-6 Complete Crate Engine

That would make sense Bill..I thought he randomly XAA out his Vin # for us,but now see that's the application code, and think TD is probably TO for Tonawanda.

Thanks for the help. I'm posting a couple of pics so you can see the engine and stamp. It really does appear to be TD but I will let you guys be the judges.
