Correct Nova/camaro muti leaf spring color???
Guys what was the correct leaf spring color??? I have found natural or the bare steel look seems to be the normal on the web. I even saw some restored cars with them black? When I took mine apart to clean them up I found in the middle of the spring it almost looked blackish/gray? Almost like a gray/black phosphate color?
Thanks |

Jason, I picked up a set off of a 24,000 mile original and they seemed to look like a cast iron look. That dark grey almost.

The heat treated steel look was a grayish black. I used a spray bomb paint made specifically for leaf springs, that I got from Rick's. It was expensive, so it MUST be correct!

Most have a phosphate like finish although I think it's more of what we used to call pickle, and oil, to keep them from completly flash rusting. Most new ones also had a light sticky black coating to try to keep them from rusting. It lasted a little while, then wore off.
Eastwood sells a product that duplicates that stuff very well. |
