71 LS6 Chevelle

After reading the thread on the 67 L-72, I went to the link on Chevytalk and read the post of no 71 LS6 chevelles were ever made either, not sure if I have shared this part here but I have a dist coded for 71 LS6 Auto??? not sure if they ever made the car but I do know a distributor exists, not sure where I ever got it I was cleaning house a few years ago and throwing things away and noticed the nipple for the advance was cut off so I ran the number, the old thing almost made it to the dumpster...

That was an over the parts counter distributor only.
It was available seperatley back then,as the entire 1971 LS-6 Chevelle never came to fruition.

Although scant,I've seen many of those over the years.

In 1971 the LS6 was offered in stick and auto in the Corvette. Is it possible that distributor came off a Corvette? I don't know the # off hand.

Re: 71 LS6 Chevelle

1971 LS-6 Vettes ran the #053(Auto),and #076(Manual).

1971 LS-6 Chevelles were intended to get the #054(Auto),and #075(Manual).
Very early date on that one too........July 27th,1970.

Re: 71 LS6 Chevelle

Rick's right, Chevrolet geared up for production and many 71 LS6 Chevelle parts do indeed exist and that distributor is actually the only date of that number I have personally seen and I've had 2 that same part # and date.

The Corvette distributor was cast iron with a mechanical tach drive as well so there was no possibility of the 2054 distributor being used in any of the 71 LS6 vettes from the factory.
71 LS6 Chevelles would have been cool but like Rick states, no factory produced cars have surfaced with any iron clad proof of being factory built.

Jeff,
No the vacuum unit should be functional on the 2054 distributor. My guess is that your distributor was modified to not utilize the vacuum portion of the advance function. It would be interesting to see what your distributor has for a mechanical advance setting.
