Who here knows mid-year Corvettes?

I've seen a lot of stats quoted in the past but never have seen anything published, so maybe you can point me out to a good website?

This car reminded me of some of the stuff I've read:

http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail...gn=CA0812_S112#

This car is claimed to be a COPO because it has a non-standard paint scheme (although silver/red seems to be kinda regular to my eyes?). I've seen a few quotes on how many black/red cars were built, but from the Corvette Black Book it only shows numbers by color and not by trim.

Any insight to the Corvette world would be appreciated!

----Diego,,,There were many, many years when silver/red was an available combination. There has never been a plausible reason why it wasnt a possibility in 1967 unless COPO ordered, but that is the case. Chalk it up to whoever made the color decisions for that year. It does make for an extremely rare 67, especially with the show provenance that this car seems to have. Maybe someone else can add to this. I hope so, but doubt it!

----The most complete book about mid-years on the planet is Noland Adams "Corvette Restoration and Technical Guide" and he mentions nothing about COPO or color variations. Go figure!.......Bill S

Thanks for your answer.

Although not an available '67 combo, was a Copo really necessary to get it?
Where's the paperwork to back up the claims of this car as even if the Copo/F&SO box is noted, if the NY show part of the story is true it may have more to do with it than the non-standard colors?

Why does this car have bolt ons in the vintage photo that Mecum provides, yet, this is a rally wheel equipped car?

I guess to piggy-back on Pete's post, does a special-order color or non-standard trim combo require the COPO channel?

Re: Who here knows mid-year Corvettes?

Yes. There some well known special color combination cars ordered under the copo system. I know of two '66 corvettes ordered with trophy blue exteriors and bright blue interiors and even a '67 corvette ordered in mosport green.

Perhaps some non-standard color combinations were built and went through the system w/ a Copo but depending on year etc wasn't always req'd?
Here's a thread on the same exact subject, click below and note John Z's comments.

Cool if a Copo car but tags/paperwork etc need to be examined to know for sure or not, as always the proof is in the pudding!

Here's a silver red build sheet from one of these rare color cars.
There is clearly a COPO number in the COPO box. The trim tag shows the correct codes for Paint and Trim, but this color was ordered through the COPO system.

Re: Who here knows mid-year Corvettes?

I kinda was of the opinion of something that was mentioned in that Corvette forum:

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I think a lot of folks mistakenly use the term COPO when they come across anything that doesn't appear to be normal as per the Black Book or an NCRS, Noland Adams publication.</div></div>

So would it be correct to suggest that many, if not most, specially trimmed non-fleet cars (like special-order colors) were not COPOs but this one in particular is?
