67 & 68 D90 Stripe Question
The way I understand it is in 67 the D90 (bumble bee) strips simply crossed the nose and went vertically down the fenders skipping the emblems on the SS cars. In 68 the stripe changed to across the nose and 1/2 way down the fenders the stripe curved to a horizontal stripe tapering to a point ending on the door. I have seen many 68 cars with the 67 stripe at car shows. In 68 could you get either stripe or are these all being painted wrong?

Re: 67 & 68 D90 Stripe Question
From intro to the end of calendar year 1967 the '68 D90 stripe was essentially the same as '67. On or about January 1 '68 the 2nd design went into production.
The '68 Assembly Manual also shows a D91 stripe, very similar to 1st design D90 that may have not made production. |
Re: 67 & 68 D90 Stripe Question
OK, well that sheds a little light on why I see different stripes on the same model. Is there a picture or design drawing of the D91 stripe?

Re: 67 & 68 D90 Stripe Question
Just in the '68 Assembly Manual.
The main difference in the D91 was that it continued under and around the grille. A very early press photo shows a yellow '67 Camaro SS with a black D91 stripe. For the record the earliest 1969 Camaro Dealer Order Form [6-68] lists D91 as a '69 option. DX1 must have replaced it. |
Re: 67 & 68 D90 Stripe Question
Was the later style D90 stripe (that went back onto the doors) the ONLY stripe available late in the year? Would this be true for a base 6 cyl or 327 car as well? Does the '67 style stripe automatically mean "produced before Jan 68"?

Re: 67 & 68 D90 Stripe Question
As far as I know. That became the new D90.
I also have to correct an earlier statement. <span style="font-style: italic">"For the record the earliest 1969 Camaro Dealer Order Form [6-68] lists D91 as a '69 option. DX1 must have replaced it."</span> I finally found the 6-68 rev of the '69 Camaro Dealer Order Form. It does not list D90 or D91 but lists DX1 with a note "Incl on Camaro SS." Later revs list D90 and it became the std Camaro SS striping. |
