Decode SB Chevy deck stamping?
Can anyone decode this deck stamping?
Here's the block # 3892657 http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d7...-58-51_540.jpg Here's the deck stamp BE7180CAL http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d7...-54-59_125.jpg |
Re: Decode SB Chevy deck stamping?
Eric, the casting number comes out to a 1967 302, 327 or 350.
Link The pad looks like a restamp to me? The reason I say that is how high the top of the water pump appears to be above the block. IMO Kurt |

Kurt;
I got the block #'s decoded out as a `67 302, 327 and 350 block. The deck stamp is the mystery as it doesn't correlate to anything I've ever seen/heard of. Maybe some sort of rebuilders stamp is all I can come up with.... *edit* to add, customer reports this has been this way 20+ years, car w/engine came out of California. |
Re: Decode SB Chevy deck stamping?
Font on the deck stamp doesn't look right to me.

Re: Decode SB Chevy deck stamping?
3 digit suffix codes started in the 70s. So, it's a restamp of unknown origin.

Re: Decode SB Chevy deck stamping?
I doubt it a restamp. There is no reason for that with this layout. What it appears to me is that it may have a marine application in its past.

Re: Decode SB Chevy deck stamping?
Marine came to mind for me as well.

Re: Decode SB Chevy deck stamping?
I donīt know about this stamping but I had a 327 from a 1972 Opel years ago that no one could decode. So there are some oddball engines out there. I ran across another of those V8 Chevy (in Opel) engines some years later. I think that the second 327 was built in 1974, definitely long after the 327 was gone in the USA.
They used the rams horn exhaust manifolds from the 1964-67 Chevy II. But thatīs another story. |
