Red-White-Blue '69 Yenko Camaro drag car?
I was just wondering if anyone remembers or has any photo's of my (now sold) Daytona Yellow '69 Yenko Camaro. I guess is was a drag car early in it's life, and was painted Red-White-Blue. Possibly raced in Minnesota? I purchased it from Cliff Ernst in 1998, as about a 15 year old restoration. Still had the original motor & rear, and it had a good amount of horsepower. When I bought it the car was missing the horns, original air cleaner, plus the jack & spare were not there. They were the "extra weight items" I'm guessing. Had some 5:13 gears in so, so was fun to drive and bang a gear or two. Was an 11,xxx mile car at the time. Sold it in 2001 if I remember right, to a guy In Colorado. Just wondering if any photo's of a Red-White-Blue drag one out there...

I remember seeing that car when you displayed it at the old Gopher State Timing Association car show many years ago (back in the "Whino" days. I had taken pictures of it at the show but they have disappeared along with all my other photos I took back in the day. Nice car!
I was doing some research on GSTA and came across this thread. See if any of these cars look familiar. I am sure MANY of them were members of the Minnesota Street Machine Association in the 70/80's. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=341268 |

When I had the car if was Yellow, but never had it in GSTA (I don't think). Many other cars in GSTA over the years, but I don't think that one. I'll have to check out the Jalopy thread when I get time. It's also been a LONG time since I've been called Wino. Whenever I do hear it, I know the person has know me a LONG time. Crap, I turned 60 a few weeks ago... Thanks Jim |

I am sure that was your car but could be wrong. I was thinking it was there around the same year that Little Hoss was displayed as well as the "Benchmark LS6" and Mist Green LS6. It was backed up against a wall on the main show floor and right next to the stairs as you come down. I am sure I even talked to you at the show. Who knows, that was a LONG time ago.

Vince had this car? I don't know for sure of course, but he then must have been the one that sold it to Cliff Ernst (?) if he had it before me. A friend of mine (Sully) at that time talked with Vince all the time, and I'm sure he would have said something to me about it? Maybe he owned it after I sold it to the guy in CO that fully restored it, but still I would think he would have mentioned it to me. I'll have to quiz Sully, as maybe I just forgot that I was told Vince at one time had the car. The guy (Mike?) that was Cliff Ernst's mechanic, he told me they called it "Hairy" and when it was first started on the transport delivering it to me, I knew why immediately. |
