Lloyd, So what is different about the location? I know the porceilin block for the interior lights is larger on console gauges, but I had not heard about the RS being different. Thanks, Kevin

Re: 1969 Camaro RS Headlight Switch NOS

Kevin, I added a photo to my "Wanted" post to illustrate the differences between the 1969 Camaro RS switch and the more common "174","183"(and other) headlight switches used in many other GM applications. The the "177" switch orients the vacuum inlet/outlet ports where they point toward the (LS) kick panel on the Camaro whereas the other switches point the vacuum ports toward the steering column. On the "177" the vacuum port rail is also located in a different position on the back of the switch (relative to the knob release button). Either of these switches will work on a 1969 Camaro however the "177" is correct for the 1969 Camaro with the console gauge option.

wow, that is like the "what is different" pictures. Took me a bit to see the diff. If they were oriented the same Headlight pull direction, it would have been easier to see :) You have peaked my interest to see what I have in my electrical boxes :D no NOS ones I am sure, just used.

You're right that would make it easier to see the differences. As the photos were "borrowed" I did what I could with them. If you are checking the switch you have it should also have a 177 stamped on it if its original (or at least correct). As the 174, 183 and other versions of the headlight switch are abundent and available on-line I am hopeful there are some NOS 177s still around.

No RS ones in my spares, just regular console gauge ones and standards. I have not been able to locate the box I stored the RS ones I am saving for my SS :(

Heres a couple of pics of an original switch. Note the 177 stamping and the orientaion of the ports. The last pics shows the difference between the original and one switch that is still available. The new one is part#1995191 on box and 1917231 ink stamped on switch.

Steve, there are a few listings on eBay for the more common variant of the 1995191 switch, the D1542 however that switch has 7 spade pins rather than 8. Does the 1917231 variant have 8 pins? Where is it available?
