1970 corvette engine factory installed motors
I was reading my 1970 GM salesman handbook today
and in the 1970 Corvette section under engines is listed a 460 hp 454 ls7. 460- Hp turbojet 454. Available only when 4 speed close ratio or turbo Hydra-matic transmission is ordered. Includes full transistor ignition system aluminum heads, special hood and ornamentation. PRICE TO FOLOW------------- I wonder if they did produce a 1970 corvette with the LS7???? PJ |

Never went into production.

Re: 1970 corvette engine factory installed motors
What dealer brochures/booklets and salesman's handbooks say does not necessarily mean it will go into production cars as this has happened many times with all the 3 big auto makers.
In 1970 the LS6 Chevelle SS 454 was the only time a car outside of the Corvette was the top performer for Chevrolet. In 1971 Corvette made sure this would not happen again as they got the LS6 and Chevelle did not. |
Re: 1970 corvette engine factory installed motors
I knew the LS7 never made it to production, other than as a crate motor. I did not know the LS6 was NOT available in the Corvette in 70. Hmmm. That's why I hang out here.

Re: 1970 corvette engine factory installed motors
that listing in the GM book was printed in feb 1970 so GM must of changed their mind
As the listed it in the options. Wonder why?? |
Re: 1970 corvette engine factory installed motors
I always heard they couldn't get the LS7 to pass the emission standards.

Interesting. Shown with Air Con - don't think that would have happened with this solid lifter engine.

Re: 1970 corvette engine factory installed motors
this is an official letter/notice of cancellation of the various hi-po engines for the Corvette for '70 that was authored after a meeting of the corvette engineering group. This came from Gib Hufstaeder's personal files. I have also included a page from the confidential 1970 Chevrolet Powertrain Features book, which was the preparation document that showed what was "intended" for 1970.

Read about it here if you wish: https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbt...opics/519588/1 |
Re: 1970 corvette engine factory installed motors
It's a shame Corvette did not get the LS6 or LS7 in 1970.
That would have been one of the all time greats for Corvette history. |
