Could use some advice on buying a nova
 

I'm looking into 68-72 novas I have around 30 grand to spend. I want a bbc 4 speed car but am open to options. There are so many choices out there and clones I'm sure. I want this to be a driver and also maybe a investment if that makes any sense.

There is no such thing as an investment grade big block Nova without bullet proof documentation and the original drive train. The best deals I have seen lately are found at the auctions. 69-70 Novas are the most popular 396 cars. If the car is any color other than silver or black it will take awhile to sell and people prefer a 4-speed with bucket seats to a column shift automatic with a bench seat. Buy a complete car, do not buy a project. If you find a car send us lots of pictures, we will let you know the good and the bad.

One of the cars I was looking at was on the nova guys site it's black and 29500 it is a auto car. It's a 396 and has the f41 rear suspension.

What year is the car? Do you have more details? I am sorry but I have not been at that

.... what part of the country do you live at?

.... If you can find something "close to home" that usually helps in that you can see it in person.

Just to give you an idea of what a nice Nova costs to put together, I bought a very nice 70 Nova from this site a few years ago. It is an SS car, excellent paint and body, trim, interior, glass, undercarriage, totaly rust free, but was built as a small block. I wanted a 427 big block car, so I did a conversion. I bought a real 427 and all genuine GM parts for the conversion. I had the 427 completely rebuilt, did all the labor myself. I have over 45 in the car. It is going to be a whole lot cheaper for you to find one done than it is to build one. A quality built Nova for around 30 grand is not going to be easy to find. It may take you a while, but don't give up. Good luck. I'll keep an eye open for you.

Do research, find someone you trust to go over ANY car you think about and triple check &quot;quoted documentation&quot;. A clone will always be just that....a clone. You can't expect a investment return on one, BUT you an enjoy it. Jut don't overpay.

Personally, unless your lead to a seller that has a good track record or reputation, do not trust just anyone. Try to keep emotions out of your purchase process and POST QUESTIONS ON THIS FORUM; there are many minds and great advisors who are always willing to help.
