Texas DMV Records

Does anyone know off hand how long Texas keeps records of vehicle transfers and registration in Texas?

Not sure what the time frame is today, but 12 years , or so ago, I was able to get docs on my 69 COPO back to the 70's - 80's. Lots of states have abandoned the early years I believe.

TDMV can go all the way back to the original owner providing the car has been licensed and titled the entire time. I know as we just recently did it on a certain muscle car and even got the selling dealer. However, like any state you better have a damn good reason for asking and you sign a document that puts your balls in a vise if you give them the wrong answer. Just saying....

Thanks Rick. The car in question is a 64 Max Wedge factory lightweight. It wasn't licensed in TX past 1980. Any chance they still have docs?
