Getting ripped on Ebay.

I sold a blower on Ebay for $1700 and I have to get back to the buyer soon.I'm nervous about getting stung.T've heard about too many people getting paid by Paypal and then the buyer says he didn't get the part and Paypal goes after the seller for the money.I know if the Paypal money is sent as a personel transaction and not an item purchase then the seller is much safer.I don't want to do this as the buyer will loose Ebay protection and it may scare him off.
The buyer has only 16 transactions in his history and he's in CA and I'm in Toronto.I don't know how solid it is when you get UPS to get a signature that the package was received.Any ideas?
Thanks.

You will get a tracking # that shows it got delivered, on that amout of $ I would request someone to sign or give the buyer an option. There is lots more that can go wronge if the buyer doesn't like the product

Ship with direct signature only. This means the addressee has to sign for it. Insure it for full value, also, in case he claims it was damaged in shipment.

If your Paypal account doesn't matter much to you, delete your credit card and bank acount from the account after you receive payment. Also make sure you have the money transfered to your bank account ASAP after receiving it.

Upload tracking info to eBay and paypal. Request signature upon delivery.

If you used the buyers address as the sender also and paid cash for the transaction it would be as if he was sending the package home to himself. That would take you out of the loop. Any claim for damage would be between the buyer and the shipper. Just a thought !

All good advice but understand one VERY important ebay policy.

IF the buyer isn't happy with the item [in your case, he doesn't like the scoring inside the blower or the polishing has too many scratches or whatever else he can concoct]and accuses it of being 'not as described' EBay will force you to take it back.[And once ebay is satisfied you have received the item back they will strip the money from pay pal or your credit card on file.]

You will have little or no say in the matter. Buyer will have to pay for return shipping and you will eat the original price PLUS the first, outgoing, shipping... Ive sold a zillion items on ebay and virtually the only, ONLY people I've ever had problems with were car people.

"And once ebay is satisfied you have received the item back they will strip the money from pay pal or your credit card on file"...............................Ebay takes the money out of a sellers account as soon as the case is opened. They dont wait until the item is returned like visa and others. If you then get the item back and its not the item you sent out or is damaged and uninsured , the seller eats it. Its easy to like paypal if you are a buyer.
