Q for Nova Guys

What do the Nova experts think about what this gentleman has explained on this car?

Re: Q for Nova Guys

The car obviously has SS features like power disc brakes, dual exhaust, 12 bolt w/multi leaf rear...the dual fuel lines would indicate a 350hp L-34 if it is a factory big block car. I would focus on the trans and rear to see if they are original..assembly date on rear should align with cowl tag..,if the tranny is original it will be a TH400..check to see if it has the aluminum plate on pass. side..the code is unique...there should also be a VIN stamp.if it has a "W" and matches dash VIN...that will be conclusive..TH400 was only available with the BB in Nova.

Dave,
I you want to read it copy the description to WORD, then reduce the character size.

One great way to see if a Nova or Camaro came with Bigblock and TH400 is the trans cross member, it should then be the oval tube kind.

I adjusted the brightness of one image in the add and it looks to me as it isn't a TH400 cross member, it could be a crossmember for a 4-speed and they were different for bigblocks in Camaro and Novas, see here: http://www.camaros.org/trans.shtml#Crossmembers

Anyway it has telltales of being an SS and BigBlock, the heater cover can easily be changed but not many do it.

Re: Q for Nova Guys

Good catch on the tranny cross member...I didn't scroll down in the ad to those photos. The photo clearly shows a TH350 transmission....you can see the vacuum modulator in the right rear of the trans...the TH400 modulator is in the front right and wouldn't be visible from that view. So, that doesn't help things...this might have been a 4 speed car that was converted to automatic or the factory motor/trans were replaced...the interior photo has a big tach covering the dash area, so I can't see if there was a shift pattern indicator in the bezel.. I have attached a photo showing the TH350 modulator...after looking at the rest of the photos and the condition...I don't think much of this vehicle...needs too much work and too much is missing.

**cowl tag says 731...this was a std. black vinyl bench with rubber floor mat...you can see the std. door panels in the photo.

someday I'll know all this stuff and not have to ask! Thanks again all. Just on the hunt for the next BB project. I do want a project car but would prefer it was 90% all there.

The radiator is being held in by a small block top mount that looks as old as the rest of the car.
