Not speaking specifically about this camaro, but in general,if a vehicle was built in the United States,(Norwood Ohio),then shipped to the dealer in Canada who ordered it,is how. George Z. would have records reflecting that. |
Re: 69 COPO
Barry I dont believe any copos were produced in canada, and about 8% [80 or so?]of copo production was exported to canada.

Re: 69 COPO
N647976 was originally sold in Canada, a loaded Copo with tinted glass, rear defrost, spoilers, console, M22, AM/FM, rallye wheels, style trim, endura bumper and deluxe black interior. It was for sale in Florida on Camaros.net a few years ago with Crager wheels, etc. for $ 80k, which seemed very cheap. Its another Canadian sold Copo that shows Alabama title history, one of at least 2 Canadian Copo Camaros with Alabama history from the same prior NY owner.

Re: 69 COPO
Rick's exactly correct and the best way to think of it is, vehicles shipped new across the Canada/US border in either direction had their VINs and RPO info etc recorded thus info available today from Canada Vintage services. This means regardless of being built in Canada or the US also whether shipped to a Canadian or US dealer, if it crossed the Canada/US border new on route to the delivering dealer than the VIN and RPO info were recorded. That said, running any VIN through Canada Vintage services and gaining the RPO info means nothing as far as documenting any car until you can prove without a doubt that the car is THE original vehicle and not a rebody. Not saying the subject car is or isn't anything it's claimed to be but too many Copo and other desirable cars have been built around Canada paperwork so a thorough inspection by someone reputable also knowledgeable about these cars is absolutely necessary before considering any VIN w/ Canada paperwork originally and truly belongs w/ any specific vehicles. Re: 69 COPO
Also, You Canadian guys chime in, but a registered Canadian COPO should have its previous owners names readily available. My Canadian Pace Car came to me with the Ontario registration that included all previous owners listed back to 1969. A rare Canadian car without any previous ownership history is questionable IMO. Canadian documentation is an incredible plus - but the paperwork trail has to support the car.

Re: 69 COPO
Ontario has some/not all owner history recorded, other Canadian Provinces have their own systems and ways of doing things so what may be available from any of them may greatly vary? Around 1980, Ontario transferred their info onto a new computer system so cars that didn't renew their plates then or later may not be in the system at all. Also, depending on who input the info and when makes a difference too as some clerks included all or part of any past owner info when they entered the info, others some/none. You were lucky Bruce as your car was probably licensed and on the road after 1980 and/or whoever input the car into the new system took the time to include past info. Either way, you're right on w/ the owner history paper trail being all important as w/ so many fraudster Canadian cars are out there already, it's sad to say but the default needs to be guilty until proven innocent!
