NHRA numbers

I'm researching and old Plymouth for a friend and on the windshield was an old NHRA number. Or at least I think it was an NHRA number. Is there anyway of tracking a car through it's racing number?

Re: NHRA numbers

If you can get in tight with a Divisional secretary/bookkeeper you might
get some info on that but typically they do not keep track of any old
info, only current participants & then they won't give out the names.
I tried recently with a # in Div. 1.

You won't probably have any luck in Glendora either.

Re: NHRA numbers

In 1974, NHRA went to 'permanent' numbers for sportsman racers meaning a given racer would have the same number as long as he registered that number. Prior to 1974, the numbers for sportsman cars were different for each national event.

I might be able to help if I know the number, and the approximate year. Aar

I have images of the car coming from a previous owner. I'll post them on here along with the NHRA number.

NHRA no. 4945

The car campaigned throughout South Texas. Just a guess, but the car may have last been on the track in the mid to early 80's. I will have a full series of images up soon.

Are you saying that each car had to replace its numbers at each national event? In the late '60s-early '70s I had what I thought were "permanent" numbers on my D/MP car. (13??) Division 1. I never entered a national event though.

Here's the car in question. This was it's last lettering possibly in the mid to late 80's.
